Dr. Hung is a highly collaborative inventor who has co-developed several medical devices and drug delivery systems. Dr. Hung is presently the Medical Director of Research in the Department of Anesthesia at Dalhousie University. Recently, he was awarded the Research Recognition Award by the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society. The Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society also awarded him the Research Award in Anesthesia in 1992, 1997, and 2002. In 2005 Dr. Hung received the Research Idol Award from the Capital District Health Authority in Halifax and the Professional Association of Residents in the Maritime Provinces Excellent-in-teaching Award. In 2011 Dr. Hung was awarded the Mentor of the Year Award from the Department of Anesthesia at Dalhousie University. Dr. Hung has served on the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia from 2000 to 2009. As the active clinical voice at FIVAmed, Dr. Hung works with the team on clinician-driven-innovations and provides invaluable clinical expertise.
Ben attended Kings College, Dalhousie and then the Technical University of Nova Scotia, graduating in 1996 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical). He worked through university in the commercial marine industry, and then transitioned to a position as a manufacturing engineer for a startup based in Halifax. Moving on after a few years to a marine service technician role in several locations around the Atlantic, he returned to Halifax in 2001 to start a consulting engineering business. He developed a focus on innovative mechanical solutions for many industries, specializing in stress analysis, structural design and 3D design development. Ben is a contributing inventor on many patents from this period. His company, Enginuity Inc. has grown to include 40+ professionals today, and continues to provide excellent and innovative engineering support to dozens of clients in North America. Now sharing his expertise with FIVAmed, Ben oversees the operations from his CEO role as well as contributing as a veteran engineer.
Alastair is executing the FIVAmed marketing plans, including engaging an Early Adopter Clinician Network. Alastair’s extensive sales and marketing experience plays a critical role when targeting directly to clinicians & hospitals in North America. Alastair has over 15 years of international sales and marketing experience and as President of Welaptega Marine Limited, Alastair put in place the infrastructure for expansion. He built a global, blue-chip client base including BP, Exxon, Statoil, Shell, Petrobras, Chevron, Woodside, and CNOOC. Between 2008 and 2012, he achieved 25% annual growth, whilst opening new markets, forging International alliances and driving industry innovation. Throughout his career, Alastair has built a rounded skill set of technical sales, product marketing and business management. Now through his consultancy CoveBD Inc, Alastair is providing go-to market support for a variety of local and international clients.
Barbara’s extensive experience in medical technology commercialization ensures that FIVAmed and next generation of fluid monitoring products will be aligned to attract future multinational and channel distribution partnerships necessary for international market penetration. Barbara is an active champion of medical technology development in Halifax. As founder of Hammock Facilitation Inc. and OrthoMX Inc. she propels novel emerging technologies and young companies towards clinical validation and multi-national partnerships. Barbara has over twelve years of technology transfer experience, and has served in various business development and clinical development roles for several biotechnology and med tech companies. Barbara’s key responsibilities within FIVAmed include managing the intellectual property portfolio, negotiating all intellectual property transfer agreements as well as sourcing and executing distribution agreements for FIVAFlow, FIVAVet, and FIVAmed’s next generation products.
Alex is a biomedical engineer with experience in the design and development of medical devices. A graduate from the Biomedical Engineering program at the University of Waterloo, his technical education combined with his experience in entrepreneurship has brought him to lead FIVAmed's product design efforts.
